Carlo Domeniconi was born in 1947 in Cesena, Italy. At the age of 13 he began his guitar studies with Carmen Mozzani. After receiving his degree from the Pesaro Conservatory at 17, he went to Berlin and received a second diploma as a student of Erich Bürger. In addition, he studied composition and taught at the Berlin College of the Arts from 1969 to 1982. During a sabbatical from 1977-1980 he headed the guitar department at the Istanbul Conservatory. Domeniconi wrote numerous works for solo instruments, as well as chamber and orchestral music. The main focus of his work are his concert pieces for guitar and orchestra as well as his works for solo guitar and guitar and various chamber music instrumentations and combinations. His exposure to Indian and Turkish music forms and tonal systems has given his compositions an individual color and allowed him to carve out his own personal, unmistakable style. A major portion of the works written by Domeniconi are performed internationally by renowned soloists.
